The aim of Zurich Exhalomics is the development of core technologies and methodologies for the safe, sensitive, fast and inexpensive analysis of exhaled breath.
Breath analysis is a highly promising diagnostic tool that allows rapid monitoring of biochemical parameters in real time and in a non-invasive way. It therefore has the potential to simplify diagnosis and monitoring of various diseases, and may at some point replace analyses that are currently performed on blood or urine samples.
The Zurich Exhalomics Project is an interdisciplinary, inter-institutional cooperation by scientists from the University of Zurich, ETH Zurich, the University Hospital Zurich, the University Children’s Hospital Zurich (Kispi), Empa and the University Children's Hospital Basel. The members cover a broad range of expertise from both medical and technical perspectives to position Zurich as a world-leading player for breath analysis.
