Exhaled air contains a multitude of molecules, the so-called exhalome, which reflects the current state of health of a person. Thus, the analysis of the exhalome represents an alternative, but currently largely unexploited method to diagnose diseases in a rapid, non-invasive way. Diseases of the respiratory system are particularly accessible for real-time breath analysis. In addition, the exhalome also provides information on other diseases and provides new insights into the metabolism.
The researchers of Zurich Exhalomics, which has been an HMZ Flagship Project since 2015, want to make this unique window to the body usable.
