With 1.5 to 2 m2, the skin is our largest and functionally most complex organ. It is a barrier protecting us from loss of water, pathogens, toxic substances and UV radiation. Furthermore, the skin is also an organ for perceiving pain, temperature, and for touching. Through the respiratory glands, we keep the body temperature at a constant level.
Skin damages are very common and range from simple lesions up to life-threatening skin diseases.
SKINTEGRITY addresses the need for more efficient diagnosis and therapy of major skin diseases and of acute and chronic wounds. 26 research groups of ETH Zurich, the University of Zurich, and the associated hospitals are committed to this flagship project.
